A n umber of airports in Northern Ireland and Scotland have been closed due to a new plume of volcanic ash rising into the sky. Great Britain and Wales may also shut down their air traffic later today.
The volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier of Iceland is at it again. spewing a cloud of ash into the atmosphere. Volcanic ash poses a threat to air traffic with the possibility that jet engines might be damaged or disabled by the gritty particles in the ash.
The latest round of airport closures is certain to cause disruptions in both passenger travel and air freight delivery.
European officials are planning to meet to discuss strategies for minimizing disruptions to passenger travel and air traffic.
