Douglas, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized two purses. Each purse contained about two pounds of marijuana.

On November 17 at about 6:30 p.m. CBP officers at the Douglas port of entry were screening travelers when they came in contact with two U.S. citizen girls. One was 17 years old and the other was 16 years old. The CBP officers noticed that both girls were carrying two very large purses that appeared to be heavier than normal.

The CBP officers searched the two purses and discovered that both girls were attempting to smuggle one brick of marijuana in the bottom of both purses. The total weight of marijuana was about four pounds with an estimated street value of $7,000.

CBP officers seized the marijuana. The two girls were questioned by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and then released to the custody of their parents.purse_1119
