Border Patrol Seizes ATV Loaded with Marijuana

Rio Grande City, Texas – / N2N / – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized 577 pounds of marijuana Thursday night.

Border Patrol agents on patrol near La Casita, Texas, observed an all terrain vehicle drive south toward the Rio Grande without the use of headlights. When the ATV headed back north, the agents observed that the vehicle had bundles strapped to the front and rear cargo rails of the vehicle.
As agents approached, the driver bailed and fled into surrounding brush abandoning 25 bundles of marijuana and the ATV.
The marijuana has a cumulative street value exceeding $461,600. The Drug Enforcement Administration assumed custody of the narcotics and continues to investigate the incident.
