At secondary, a CBP canine enforcement officer and his narcotics detector dog “Tex” conducted an inspection of the tractor that yielded a positive alert for the odor of narcotics emanating from the commodity. A non-intrusive imaging system scan of the cargo resulted in anomalies being detected within the ceramic bricks. CBP officers shattered open the ceramic bricks and discovered 2,100 packages weighing 2,489 pounds of marijuana concealed within.

CBP officers at the import lot seized the shipment of ceramic bricks and the marijuana that has an estimated street value of $2,489,000.

CBP officers referred the case to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further investigation.

“This significant bulk seizure of marijuana can be attributed to the vigilance, dedication and technological resources CBP officers utilize in clearing commercial shipments,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, port director, Eagle Pass. “Their efforts in securing our borders also help keep these drugs off the streets.”
